Even in this beautiful and prosperous area there are people suffering from the disease of addiction. Between a culture of excess and the prevalence of wineries that so many struggle with substance abuse. Addiction is a disease and not a moral failing like believed by many in the past. Addiction demands professional medical treatment same as every other disease.

What Treatment Options are Available?

There are a variety of treatment programs to choose from. Inpatient is the most commonly recommended program as it offers the most comprehensive and intensive treatment protocol. Often people require some amount of time in a detox or stabilization phase of treatment. The detox phase may be possible within the same facility as the inpatient program, but make sure to do your research to find the best fit for your situation. There are also outpatient programs that vary widely in level of intensity, it is simply a matter of deciding what you need most.

There are a variety of therapeutic approach utilized by treatment facilities. Individual therapy, often in the form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, is especially helpful in illuminating thought processes and how they translate into behavior. Through individual therapy sessions people are able to work through past traumas and come to understand how and why things have transpired.

Other therapeutic methods include group therapy and family therapy. Group therapy works like a catalyst for fellow group members to for strong, lasting bonds. Family therapy serves both as an educational and healing module. Family members are educated on the disease of addiction and, along with the addicted family member, taught coping mechanisms and communication techniques to help create the best possible chances for the individual to stay sober and for all involved to thrive.

Anyone with a desire to stop using drugs or alcohol are welcome at any Twelve Step meeting at any time. Many treatment centers are Twelve Step based and promote continued meeting attendance after completion of the inpatient or outpatient program. People new to recovery are strongly encouraged to attend meeting regularly and frequently so as to ensure a strong connection with the group. It is vitally important to find a homegroup, which is a group where you are connected with other group members on a regular and consistent basis. All group members are encouraged, but not required, to get a sponsor and work the Twelve Steps. A sponsor is a sober member of a twelve Step program who has already worked all Twelve Steps and will lead you through them as well. Fellow group members provide each other with support in tough times, and together overcome even the greatest of odds. If you are struggling with substances, find a meeting in your area today and stop suffering.
