It had a beautiful and colored past, one of the jumping off points for 49ers searching for the gold, and the birthplace of its famous leather. But even with all of its history and beauty, Napa is not able to avoid drug addiction and alcoholism. These diseases can take over anyone's life no matter of age, background or sex. Often times addicts are not willing to admit that they have a substance abuse problem. And if they do admit they have a problem they try to play it off as a minor one. But the bottom line is that their addiction can kill them at any given minute. One too many pills at a party, one more shot before driving home from the bar or just a bad batch of heroin can all end a person's life within a blink of an eye. If you know someone who is struggling with a drug addiction or alcoholism, then you might have to provide them with the wakeup call they need. You can do so by holding an intervention for them. An intervention is when friends and family of an addict can no longer take their addiction getting in the way any longer so they hold a meeting to express concern. The overall of an intervention should be to get the addict to agree to enroll into rehab. When holding an intervention, the most important thing to remember is to not be judgmental. The worst thing you can do is verbally attack the addict, forcing them to get defensive. Let the addict know that everyone has gathered because they care about him or her and want to see them live long enough to get the help they need. If you are in recovery then you already know that the real work begins when you finish rehab. Trying to live out your life in a sober manner is not easy, especially alone. Attending AA and NA can put you in a good support group who will help you stay on the path of recovery. Working the 12 Steps with other group member is also a good way to stay busy and focused on your sobriety. Meetings are held on a daily basis.
