Treatment Centers for Addiction in Folsom, California

Folsom, California is located in Sacramento County and is best known for the Johnny Cash song "œFolsom Prison Blues." But Folsom it a lot more than just a prison city. It is home to every kind of outdoor recreation from cycling to water sports. Folsom is located on the American River Parkway and inhabits around 72,200 residents.

Like all cities, Folsom has a population of residents who need help with a substance abuse problem. Drug addiction and alcoholism can overtake anyone's life. Too many people take to harmful substances to relief their stress. Some people start using to try to fit in. While it sounds childish, it can be true in some cases. If someone feels isolated they can take to drugs and drinking to feel accepted by the others who use.

It may sound easy to quit using, but if you are reading this because you have a drug or alcohol problem then you know how hard it can be. It is so hard to quit because your body has developed a chemical dependency to the substances that you abuse. Making it hard for you to use willpower to turn down carvings. Addiction is a medical disease that requires professional help in order to overcome.

How Do I Help Someone?

If you know one a loved one who is living life in a nightmare because of an addiction, then it might be time to look into hosting an intervention. In an intervention, family and friends can gather to express concern and support for the addict. If an addict realizes that people support them getting help, then they will be more likely to enroll into rehab. Sometimes an addict is so deep into drug and alcohol use that they do not realize that their addiction is hurting more than just them.

When setting up an intervention it is a good idea to hold a practice run so that everyone who plans on attending can know which order to speak in. It is also a good idea to have everyone prepare a written statement to read to the addict in the actual intervention.

It is very easy, in an intervention, to become too emotional and sound judgmental towards the addict. This is probably the worst thing you can do because if the addict feels that they are being attacked then they will tune out everything their loved one are trying to tell them. Just let the addict know that everyone is being hurt by their addiction and everyone wants to see them get help.

The overall goal of an intervention should be to convince your loved one to get the help they need. Do not gather people to gang up and shame the addict, they think that is going to happen already. Your loved one needs help, you could save their life with an intervention.

After rehab you will have to live your life one day at a time. Each day that you stay sober is another day you win. But it is much easier said than done to remain sober for the rest of your life. It can be made a little easier if you have a reliable support group. A good way to build the best support group you can is to get involved in the 12-Step Community by attending AA and NA meetings on a daily basis. Meetings are held daily and are great ways to interact with other people who understand what you are going through. Your friends and family might not know how hard it is for you, but people at meetings know exactly what you are going through.
