Substance Abuse Rehab Program

Addiction is a terrible thing, there is nothing quite like it. While most ailments may wreak havoc on your physical health, addiction seeks to destroy your body, mind and spirit. While it may begin as a means of coping with stress, or a seemingly fulfilling past-time, addiction will not stop until it takes over your entire life. However, with the help of treatment, recovery is a very real possibility in your life. As soon as you enter into treatment, on-staff clinicians are ready to help with any of your needs. Once your body is free of toxins, you will begin to delve into learning the nature of addiction itself, as well as the core reasons that created the need to turn to substances. As the treatment process continues, you will then develop new skills that will help you live a life free from the grip of addiction.

What to Look for When Selecting a Rehab Facility

If you are looking into getting treatment for a substance abuse problem, then you are doing the right thing. With so many different types of rehab facilities out there, it can be confusing to know which one will work for you. It should be pointed out that rehab is stepping stone to recovery from your drug addiction or alcoholism problem, not a cure. Unfortunately, an addiction never really ends. But the user can learn how to cope with their substance abuse problem and avoid using in the future. Rehab is designed to give people the knowledge, skills and self-confidence they need to turn away using dangerous substances.

Everyone entering rehab suffers from a different addiction, under different circumstances. Most modern inpatient rehab facilities offer each client their own personalized rehab program to complete. There is no single remedy to help everyone get over every addiction. It will be on you to put the time and effort into completing your treatment program.

Location is also a huge factor in selecting a rehab facility. Most people who travel for rehab see great results. Changing their surroundings can help them realize that getting clean is an option. It is hard for people with substance abuse problems to realize that there is any other way to live. If you remove yourself from that environment, you will have an easier chance of helping yourself recover. Traveling for treatment discounts you from the people and places that encourage or drug and alcohol use. Creating separation from bad situations and unstable relationships can give you an extra push toward finishing rehab.

Knowing the difference between inpatient rehab and outpatient rehab can also make your decision making a little easier. Inpatient programs require you to stay on the medical campus for the entirety of your rehab stint. This is good because you are in an environment of support with medical professionals. You are given living accommodations. If you are fair from your normal area, then finishing rehab is more likely. If you are able to leave the facility at any time you want, then that will always be in the back of your head. Rehab is all about change. Changing where you are and who you associate with will work wonders for you while in rehab.

Therapy is a huge part of rehab. Therapy helps you explore the how’s and why’s of your addiction. Why you started to use substance to escape reality and how it got so out of hand. In therapy, you can also take a step back to see your situation from the outside. When selecting a rehab facility, you should look into which kind of therapy sessions are offered.

No one can go to rehab for you. And if you are forced to go to rehab, chances are the results will not be good. You have to want to recover from your substance abuse problem. The decision is yours to make as to which facility you want to enroll in. Just know that you have options, you are not alone. There are plenty of rehab centers waiting to help you.

Types of Rehab Programs

Alcohol Abuse Recovery Treatment

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) reported that in 2014, 87.6 percent of people ages 18 or older admitted to drinking alcohol at some point in their life. 56.9 percent of those people stated that they drank within the last month. Alcohol tops the list of commonly abused drug in our country. It is easy to slip down the road of alcohol addiction when drinking to relieve stress or have a good time with friends. After a certain point, tapering yourself off of liquor can be tough. It requires professional help to complete rehab and start rebuilding your life.

Alcoholism is a disease that millions of Americans suffer from every year. There are both inpatient and outpatient rehab options for those seeking help. If you find yourself not being able to say no to drinking or drinking to blackout every time, then it might be time to look into alcohol rehab. Just because it is sociality accepted, does not mean everyone can handle it. Completing rehab is not easy but, with a little willingness, it is possible to put yourself in a better environment. Do not let drinking get in the way of your family life or career any longer. Learn More

Rehab for Drug Addiction

When someone makes the decision to enter drug treatment, they will usually go through detox first. Detox cleanses an individual’s body of the harmful chemicals and metabolites accumulated from drug abuse. This takes anywhere from 3 to 14 days depending on certain criterea. Detox prepares the client for the therapeutic dimension of rehabilitation. In this phase, the client will learn the various tools and strategies to live a successful life in recovery.

Group and individual therapy are the two main therapeutic methods that people go through in order to begin recovery. Group therapy hinges on peer interaction. Clients get together with the help of a therapist and process emotions and learn coping mechanisms for recovery. Group therapy also helps people re-adjust to community. When someone lives in active addiction, they can isolate themselves. So, group therapy helps people connect to each other.

Another important therapeutic component is individual therapy. Individual therapy brings together a therapist and a client in a one-on-one setting. The therapist will help the client uncover any underlying issues that may gravitate them toward drugs and alcohol. Often, patients will have co-occurring disorder, which make them more susceptible to using.  Learning about why people use helps them overcome their abuse. Learn More

Co-Occurring Disorders

Someone with substance abuse disorder (drugs or alcohol) and mental illness (depression, PTSD, anxiety, OCD, etc.), the diagnosis is called a co-occurring disorder. Any combination of mental health disorders and substance abuse or addiction qualifies for this diagnosis (sometimes referred to as a dual diagnosis), such as alcoholism and depression, anorexia and cocaine dependence, post-traumatic stress disorder and heroin addiction, prescription drug dependence and anxiety, and more.

Depression

Depression can be a gateway into the cycle of substance abuse. When suffering with depression, it is easy to do some drugs or drink some booze to ease the pain and suffering you are feeling on the inside. If you don’t seek treatment for your depression, the substance abuse will become a full-fledged addiction as you continue to self-medicate.

PTSD

Post-traumatic stress disorder or PTSD can cause severe depression, anxiety, and worry. When you suffer from PTSD it can cause you a great amount of stress making it easy to turn to drugs and alcohol. Once the drugs and alcohol become a coping mechanism for your PTSD, the miserable cycle of addiction is right around the corner.

Childhood Trauma

Childhood trauma is unfortunate, but it happens. In order to cope with the traumatic events from your past, it is easy to turn to drugs and alcohol because they have been there for you felt like nothing or no one else was. What you need to remember is turning to drugs in the future for what has happen in the past, isn’t going to solve anything.

Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar disorder, also known as manic depression, is a grave mental disorder. Bipolar disorder takes ahold of your mental and physical well-being, making it easy to use drugs and alcohol as an escape. Bipolar Treatment will encompass psychotherapy counseling sessions, Dual Diagnosis support groups, and holistic therapy.

Heroin and Opiate Addiction Treatment

Heroin addiction is a chronic disease that will tell you to keep using when you want to give up. The manipulative drug takes over your mind, body, and soul. It may feel hopeless when you are addicted to heroin, but there is hope for everyone. All it takes is some help from rehabilitation and the desire to live.

Treating your heroin addiction with rehab should encompass multiple therapy methods, medication during detoxification, different types of support groups and lifestyle changes. In rehab, you will undergo a detoxification process, then the real treatment will start. Treatment for heroin addiction is organized to help you identify with your addiction.

In rehab, you will identify the with your temptations that could have triggered your heroin use. When you know what has triggered the use, you will know what to stay away from to prevent relapse in the future. Rehab will help you face all spiritual, physical, and mental issues that need to be tackled for you to grow in your recovery. Do not be afraid to stand up to heroin, you can beat it – believe in yourself. Learn More

Prescription Drug Abuse and Addiction

Many people think that only bad people fall ill to addiction. Most of those people also believe that addictions are only developed to hardcore street drugs like cocaine and heroin. That is not true. Prescription drug abuse is on the rise in our country, and it is possible to develop a chemical dependency to pill authorized by doctors. A lot of people who abuse prescription drugs do so because they think there are less side effects and risks. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) states that 54.2 percent of people who abuse prescription drugs for non medical reasons get them for free from a friend or relative.

NIDA also reported that 52 million people over the age of 12 have used prescription drugs for non medical reason at some point in their life. 6.1 million of those people reporting use in the last month. If you are seeing the signs and symptoms of addiction from your prescription drug use, then seek professional help now. Prescription drug addiction can ruin your relationships and career just as fast as any other types of drugs and alcohol. Prescription drugs can be safe and healthy if used in the right amount, with proper medical authorization. If abused, you can go down a slippery slope. Learn More

The Addiction Recovery Process

Admitting that you have a substance abuse problem is brave. Some say it is the hardest part of recovery. Getting that first step taken care of ASAP can put you in the right mindset. The next step in the recovery process will be to complete a detoxification cycle. Detox will clean all of the harmful toxins out of your body. At this point, you will experience withdrawal symptoms. It is recommended that you complete your detox stint in at an inpatient facility. Inpatient care will put you under medical supervision so that you can be assured to stay safe while going through withdrawal.

Then it is on to rehab. Most rehab programs are offered as 30, 60 or 90 day plans. In rehab you will go through intense therapy sessions so that you can learn how your actions effected your life during your addiction. Learning the details of your triggers can act as powerful knowledge when trying to lay off of drugs and alcohol. If you know what is going to set off temptations, then you are more likely to avoid using after rehab is over. Rehab is not simple or easy. It takes a huge amount of effort and courage to complete a rehab stint.

Recognizing Signs of Alcoholism

Because drinking is “the cool thing to do” in many cultures, it is not easy to figure out when you have crossed the line from moderate to problem drinker. People who drink normally usually have a glass of wine or a beer with some friends on special occasions. Problem drinkers use alcohol to cope with the difficulties that are arising in their life. If you have been using alcohol as a crutch to keep you going, you may have a drinking problem.

Problem drinkers don’t yet have an addiction to alcohol, however, alcoholism is a progressive disease and what starts out as a form of relieving stress turns into a major life threatening problem.

Alcoholism and problem drinking is serious business and can affect all aspects of your life. It can destroy jobs and relationships, your reputation, and emotional stability. Put a stop to it while you have the chance. There is hope. Recovery is possible and it takes tremendous courage and strength to face problem drinking and alcoholism head on. If you put your mind to it, you can stay sober. Recovery is possible. Learn More

  1. You make a great point about how heroin addictions are chronic conditions. My brother has been suffering from a heroin addiction for years. I’ll have to connect him to a counselor.
