Substance Abuse in Lynn, Massachusetts

Lynn is in Essex County, Massachusetts and has around 90,000 residents. It's a community of hard working people that want their city to thrive. While Lynn has a crime rate that is higher than the average for the state, it has been on a steady decline the past few years.

Massachusetts has an increasing problem with heroin addiction. Just like most cities Lynn does have people struggling with addiction, if you think you or someone you know has a problem there are a variety of treatment centers that are waiting to help.

What Types of Treatment Are There?

When you're looking for a rehab or treatment center there are a couple different types of treatment programs to look at. There is inpatient treatment where the patient will be living on site. This kind of treatment is very effective because it moves the patient out of the reach of temptation, allowing them to just focus on recovery. If you don't like the way that sounds there is also outpatient treatment, where the patient lives off site. This allows them to continue life as normal as possible while in treatment.

How Do I Help Someone?

If you are seeing signs that a loved one is struggling with a substance abuse problem, then you might have to step in and hold an intervention. An intervention is when friends and family members of an addict gather to show concern and support for the addict. The overall goal of an intervention should be to get the addict to agree on rehab. There are only three ways to end an addiction: rehab, prison and death. Open your loved one's eyes to the option of rehab.

Many times, addicts will not admit that they have a problem. And the ones who do admit it, usually do not think that they are hurting the people around them. Staging an intervention can show the addict just how badly their addiction is affecting their relationships. Each person at an intervention should be given the opportunity to read a prepared statement to the addict on.

Once an addict realizes that they have support and concern from those close to them, then they might be more likely to seek the help they need. Letting the addict know that you want to understand their situation can pay dividends moving forward.

It is important to stay encouraged and not give up. It is not uncommon for an addict to need more than one intervention. If your loved one is still not willing to go to rehab, hold another one. Sometimes, it takes more than one.

Finding a meeting to attend is a great way to build a support group that understands your struggles regardless of what part of your recovery you are in. This tool was created to help you find a meeting no matter where you are. NA and AA meetings are great ways to connect with people who understand what you are going through. having a strong support group to guide you through sobriety will be key when temptations to use drugs and alcohol arise.
