If you are reading this because you have an addiction to drugs or alcohol, you are taking a step in the right direction. Often times, users let their substance abuse problem go on for too long. Now is the time to get yourself into detox and rehab. New Brunswick has a great medical background throughout the city so facilities are available to help you. Do not feel isolated or alone. There will be people and resources with you every step of the way towards recovery. Being an addict is not a crime. Addiction is a sickness that needs proper help, guidance and medical attention. Look into attending a meeting today to start on the path of becoming sober.

What is a "œHigher Power"?

Alcoholics Anonymous was founded in 1935, but their most remarkable creation was the genesis of the 12-step program. The basis of 12-steps is the acceptance that addicted people are powerless to overcome their addiction without the help of a "œhigher power."

In the beginning, higher power referred to God, and there are many references to God, prayer and Christianity within Alcoholics Anonymous, as it was the founders' belief that addiction could not be overcome without the power of God.

The success of Alcoholics Anonymous and the 12-steps transcended people of different faiths and of no faith (atheists), so the reference of a higher power was adapted to mean any power greater than ourselves. This can be a support group, family, medical support staff, nature itself or even the cosmos.

If you are addicted to drugs or alcohol, you can be rest assured knowing that in New Brunswick you will receive quality treatment. There are both outpatient and inpatient treatment centers there that can help you. You just have to make the decision that you need that help. If New Brunswick isn't for you then we can help you find an area that is. Traveling for treatment will move you away from the toxic environment you're in that leads you to abuse drugs and alcohol. Going to meetings can give you a sense of stability that your life outside of treatment might be lacking. We all get busy and feel like there just isn't enough time in the day, but making the time to go to meetings is extremely important. It doesn't matter how long you have been gone, there is never a bad time to go back. Use this search engine to find one that is currently meeting in your area. You can also find a sponsor at group meetings to coach you on your path to recovery. Also look for a 12-step program near you.
