The city is named after the army installation of Fort Pierce built in 1838 during the second Seminole War. Fort Pierce now sits on the Atlantic Ocean and the Fort Pierce Inlet Sound. The city is known for the Oculina Research Reserve, which is a 300 square mile marine protected area, as well as its manatee population.

There is a huge number of museums, gardens, parks, marine centers, history centers, and other fascinating sites in Fort Pierce. The 2005 City of Excellence Award from the Florida League of Cities was also awarded to Fort Pierce.

Even in an idyllic setting such as Fort Pierce, many people find themselves stuck in the vicious cycle of addiction. The disease of addiction affects nearly one in every ten American adults, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, or SAMHSA.

With so many Americans struggling with addictive substances, no one should feel too ashamed to ask for help to overcome their addiction. Addiction is a disease that requires expert care to overcome its progressive and deadly grasp.

How Do I Get Started in Recovery?

The best place to start a new life in recovery is to enter an addiction treatment center. Many people require some assistance with withdrawal, which is taken care of in the detox phase of treatment. Medical professionals will most likely prescribe medication that allows you withdrawal safely and as comfortably as possible.

The next phase is inpatient rehab, where you will continue to have around the clock support. This phase is where the intensive therapy and learning about addiction take place. Outpatient care may follow your inpatient stay, however, everyone is different and some start outpatient right after detox. If you have any questions about which treatment program would be best for you, give us a call at (866) 578-7471 . We have experts ready to answer all your questions and help walk you through the process of addiction treatment.

A life in sobriety comes with endless rewards, purpose and joy. However, getting and maintaining sobriety requires, at times, a strong support system. 12-step programs offer the support and guidance you need to overcome addiction and start living a better life. If you are struggling with substance abuse, find a meeting in your area today and start living the life that you have always dreamed of living.
