Hallandale Beach is a medium-sized city in Florida with a population of 37, 113 people. It was originally named after a railroad worker. Like most cities in Boward County, it didn't have any European people living in the area until the late 1800's.

Hurricane Katrina first touched down between Hallandale and Aventura, and there's another powerful storm ripping the city apart. That storm is addiction. There are millions of people throughout the world who struggle with addiction and thousands of people in Hallandale Beach who do as well.

No city has immunity from the tyranny of addiction. If you are addicted to any substance, you should consider looking into getting help with that.

vThe path of addiction leads to the grave and the penitentiary. Don't become another statistic.

How is Physical Dependence Different than Addiction?

A lot of people confuse physical dependence from addiction and it's understandable. People who have a physical dependence on drugs or alcohol mirror the behaviors and symptoms of those who are in active addiction.

The big difference between the two revolves around the fact that addiction is rooted in compulsive need to use based on a psychological reason. Somebody can develop dependence without needed it for psychological reasons.

For example, some people get hurt and need prescription medication to get over the pain. They may end up developing a dependence to that medication.

The grey area exists as a lot of people who struggle with dependence can easily turn over into addiction as they begin to confuse physical with emotional pain.

Will Treatment Make a Difference?

Over the years, treatment practices have come a long way in helping people learn how to overcome addiction. In most treatment centers, there are trained professionals who have worked for years in the field who can help with your issues. They focus on incorporating you back into society as a positive, not isolated member.

If you or your loved one struggles with addiction, consider traveling for treatment. Traveling helps you start again.

If you have a family member struggling with addiction, but they refuse to get help, consider staging an intervention for them.
