Help Is Available for Those In South Jordan
Founded in 1859 by Alexander and Catherine Lince Beckstead, South Jordan, Utah wasn’t incorporated until 1935. Many of the first settlers dug caves for homes out of the river bank. Sun-dried adobe bricks served as a front wall with willows, plans, mud and dirt comprising the roof.
South Jordan is also known for the distinctive landmark of the LDS Jordan River Temple. About 20 miles south of Salt Lake City, South Jordan started as a farming community, diverting water for their crops from a massive ditch the Beckstead family dug called the Beckstead Ditch, which still exists today.
Situated between the Quirrh and Wasatch mountains, South Jordan is a serene recovery destination. Whether you’re looking for group meetings, detox, rehab or aftercare, South Jordan has many of the resources you’ll need. It’s also great if you’re looking to travel from Salt Lake City for your therapy.
Despite strong religious roots, many citizens of Utah have struggled with drug and alcohol addiction. Can I Skip the Detox Process?
Many people who are ready to enter rehab get discouraged to follow through with the detoxification stage of recovery. Detox gets a bad reputation because of the withdrawal symptoms that occur during this stage. The most common withdrawal symptoms include puking, sweating, shaking, loss of appetite and trouble sleeping.
These symptoms occur because your body is trying to clean itself of all the harmful chemicals that you pumped into your body during your addiction. Because of the chemical dependency that your body has developed to drugs and alcohol, it will go into shock when you try to kick your addiction.
It is important to complete your detox cycle in an impatient facility so that you can remain safe and comfortable when dealing with pesky withdrawal symptoms.
Going to meetings can help you connect with people who are going through the same steps you are. You can get help and support from those who have been in recovery for longer, while at the same time helping those how haven’t been in recovery as long. Building a strong support system can be a great help to you when you need it the most.
