Most Insurance Plans Are Accepted

While drug and alcohol treatment can be expensive, don't let that keep you from getting the treatment you need. Most insurance plans cover drug and alcohol treatment, or cover some portion from it. Also, check the state you live in to see if they offer assistance to people who may not be able to afford it, if you don't have insurance.

Some treatment centers will also work out payment plans for their patients, if they aren't covered by insurance or are unable to pay in full.

What Are the Most Common Substances Abused by Teenagers?

Drug and alcohol abuse affects adults and teenagers. Addiction is a disease and it's especially tragic when young adults become addicted. Each year, the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) follows substance abuse trends among teenagers from 8th to 12th grade.

This study was called the Monitoring the Future Study (MTF). According to this story, the following is a list of the most commonly abused drugs by 12th graders (in order of frequency of use): marijuana, Adderall, Vicodin, tranquilizers, cough medicine, sedatives, hallucinogens, MDMA/ecstasy, OxyContin, cocaine, salvia and Ritalin.

Keep in mind that addiction is a disease. If your child is suffering from alcohol or drug dependency, considering taking them to a treatment facility in another town or city. Traveling for treatment has many advantages, including removing your teenager from the stressful environments of their peers and other temptations that contribute to their substance abuse. Another advantage is anonymity. Your teenager can have more confidentiality about their treatment by traveling to another city or state.

Joining a group meeting when you complete treatment will give you an even better chance of recovery from your drug or alcohol abuse. Groups like NA, CA and AA are available in nearly every town and city in the country. These groups typically meet on a weekly basis and provide the fellowship of a support system of peers who are struggling with the same affliction as you. You can also be matched up with a sponsor at group meetings who will provide you with individual help on your path to recovery. Also consider joining a 12-step program which is another tool in the battle against drug and alcohol addiction. Click on the map below and find a group meeting near you!
