I gave birth at this hospital and it was a horrible experience. I can't say all of the nurses where awful because a couple of them were actually great, but they were exceptions in my experience. The nurse that was with me during my active labor was uncommunicative, and really made that portion of my birthing experience even worse. I'm giving three stars because there were a few people that seemed to genuinely care about my well being and my sons, and I loved my doctor, but I would not recommend the maternity ward here.

Why is this hospital so terrible? Who allows the rude and inattentive culture to continue? Its ridiculous. I recently went to the emergency room and was treated poorly, was out right disrespected by the ER nursing staff AND misdiagnosed. I suffered for 2 weeks after. Once I made the drive to St. Vincent's, where the staff is much more professional and actually took the time to ask questions and discuss my symptoms, I was better in 48 hours. I hear similar experiences all the time. Why does Gardner allow this? It's just not right. People should not be afraid to go to the local hospital. Its sad.

I was transported to Heywood from the Athol ER with a broken leg. It was pretty bad and I needed surgery. Was there from Friday night-Monday. Fantastic hospital! Unfortunately I’ve stayed at quite a few. The rooms are big and I love that there’s plenty of seating for visitors. The nurses, cna’s and doctors were top notch!! I had my daughter buy them some thank you gifts because they were so kind.

Auto accident Dec 23, under protest, I was taken to Heywood. Chest scan and released with collapsed lung. Plastic tube to breath into was given to me in order to help my lung inflate and breathe. The attending nurse, who was involved in another conversation with a co worker, as well as me, had trouble locating the small plastic device I was to take with me. Only until she pulled it out of an empty corrugated box with crumbled up trash papers, from the bottom if a closet. On August 28 my Primary Physician at St Vincent’s in Worcester called me to explain that a report from Heywood, written in December, had been received and indicated three masses in my lung. Immediate chest ex ray, then a Scan, and ultimately a PET Scan. Heywood Radiology. Report 9 months late. Disgraceful. This hospital needs reevaluate who they are hiring. This was a very serious and truly unacceptable. The entire Hospital should be closed. Missed diagnosis and sloppy communication, doctors who do not wash their hands in ER, then stitch a lip wound! Just a few issues to ponder. Disgraceful and not up to medical standard. Do not use this hospital for anything, not even a hang nail !
