How Does Someone Heal from Addiction?

The first step of healing from addiction, is abstinence. When going to rehab you will be evaluated to determine how long of treatment services you will need. After being evaluated you will go into the detoxification stage, provided you are in a residential treatment center. Detox is when the chemicals produced by drug and alcohol use are cleansed out of your body. Once the chemicals in your body cleared out and withdrawal is over with, you will begin the stage of therapy based treatment.

Therapeutic treatment refers to psychological and behavioral healing at an emotional level. Once this stage begins you will be able to truly begin healing from your addiction. During the therapeutic stage you will be educated on addiction as a mental disorder, as well as, learn to search within to identify triggers that could threaten your recovery. You will also learn personal traits and skills as well as develop healthy coping skills for overall confidence in living in recovery.

Can My Recovery Be Threatened?

Essentially, yes recovery can be threatened. A way to stop this from happening is to continue working on your recovery. Good ways to continuously work on your recovery on both a personal and spiritual level are through 12-step meetings and programs as well as surrounding yourself with a sober support system. If you surround yourself with people that are still drinking or using, you are setting yourself up for relapse. This kind of environment should certainly be avoided. Surrounding yourself with a loving and recovery supportive environment you should have no difficulty what so ever maintaining sobriety joyfully. If you are in Danville, VA and in need of treatment services for addiction, we can help. Please reach out for support and contact us at (866) 578-7471.
