The event is considered one of the most intense geological events in the history of the Atlantic area of North America. The impact crater is buried beneath 1,500 feet of gravel, sand, silt and clay.

Yet, beneath the surface of tranquility is a sinister issue that plagues much of the United States: drug and alcohol addiction. Approximately 23 million Americans are addicted to alcohol or drugs. Drug addiction is a choice but it is also an affliction that should be seen and treated as a disease. People who do drugs are in many ways victims and they need help.

How to get help

If you or your loved one has a history with drug abuse or addiction maybe it’s time to reach out for help. There are several options and methods of treatment. Setting up an intervention might be the first step if your loved one is resistant to getting help on their own. There are a lot of intervention specialists that can help mitigate the tension and serve as an unbiased guide in taking the steps towards recovery.

One of the most successful means of treating addiction is enrolling in a rehab facility and going through detox. It is a loving, supportive community where the people who attend are able to get the help they need to fight the disease of addiction.

Your addiction doesn’t have to hamper you anymore. You have every right to thrive and not just survive. You are more than the sum of your choices; you are valuable and as such you should pursue your health with the utmost vigor.

There are a lot of options for treatment. You can chose to stay in the Chesapeake region or you can travel somewhere else to potentially get away from comfort zone and enabling patterns and people. Either way, you can get help and It’s only a phone call away.

However, if you live in Chesapeake, consider going to treatment in a different place. It can help you start again. Call us now: (866) 578-7471 .

Returning to your 'normal life' may be difficult after treatment. Being around the people you used to get drunk or high with may cause the cravings to stifle your sobriety. Getting involved in the sober community could ease that stress and fortify your will in times of need. It is highly encouraged to attend meetings regularly and find someone who will sponsor you. When stressful moments do occur and you are struggling with your sobriety, that strong support system will help you through those difficult times in your life. So find an AA or NA meeting in your area today.
