Morphine is an Opiate (Narcotic) Pain Reliever, meaning that it derives naturally from an Opium poppy plant. It can be taken orally as a tablet, capsule, or syrup or can be injected as a solution (it is mainly used in extended-release form, not intended to be used on an “as-needed” basis). Like other Opiates, Morphine affects the CNS by regulating activity that increases pain tolerance and decreases pain perception. Visit the Morphine Page for more information.
