About this Facility
Knoxville Area Rescue Ministries (KARM) has been serving the Knoxville community since 1960, offering hope and restoration to men and women facing homelessness, poverty, mental health struggles, and addiction. Each year, more than 5,000 individuals walk through our doors seeking help, healing, and a chance to rebuild their lives. Our mission is simple yet profound: restoring lives in Jesus’ name. We believe in addressing the needs of the whole person—helping individuals find safe shelter, meaningful work, healthy relationships, and the foundation for a life that is stable and whole.KARM provides recovery services grounded in Christian faith, offering practical resources, spiritual guidance, and a supportive community to those in need. We are not affiliated with any single denomination but embrace the gifts of the wider Christian community to fulfill our calling. At KARM, we witness daily proof of Jesus’ power to change lives. By combining compassionate care with faith-based restoration, we walk alongside the most vulnerable in our city, helping them move from crisis to stability and from despair to hope.

It is what it is...it could be ran better and have a better attitude toward its guests and a staff that has your best interest.. Staff is totally rude to guests and their clients for this to be a Christian Based Facility and program. THEY ARE WEIRD!! clients have even shared with me that they have had personal Belongings (money) stolen from their bags during the Check in process by STAFF MEMBERS! THEY ARE UNPROFESSIONAL AND NEEDS THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU CONTACTED.

One staff member made life for me warm, loving and great, and I'll never forget this lady. You will alway be in my prayers. I'm so sorry for being a wretch to you. Forever thankful for our interactions. *Sorry for the grammer errors*

This place has homeless people sleeping on the ground outside the door. They say they are open 24/7 but they lie. They turn people that are in real need, away and don't even care about it. This place is a joke. That is not how Jesus would treat anyone! This is despicable, they make up RULES as they go! I would rather sleep under a bridge or in jail before going to this place!:Jesus will punish those whom are mean to his children! The people that work here have no heart they're just there for a pay check. Prolly getting the resources that are meant for the real people in need. That's why there is homeless people in the world and is only getting worse. If homeless people lived by all their made up rules then no one in need would ever get help. They need to place their so called rules publicly thus no one would be turned away in the time of need. And don't even think about calling the black woman that is there around 4 am because she will not help you and she will hang up on you and not answer your questions. You have got to be kidding me! I will pray for you black lady! I will report this place to the state of Tennessee for all the roaches and bugs in the place. The way the people treat the homeless here. Like a prison not like a missionary. So many dang stupid rules. So if you're in need of a hot shower after your work and you cannot afford to get a room or you are homeless.... do not go here because their rules will make you stand outside in the cold without explaining any thing and when you call and ask nicely they will hang up on you!

I went for the volunteer tour and loved it! You wouldn't believe how many services they have for unhoused people. There are medical and dental and job services and even help for veterans. They have substance abuse programs and food.It is a Christian-based organization so it is a very kind and loving environment. I highly recommend that you shop at their stores. There are several spread out all over Knoxville. The prices are very good and you can even donate yourself. If you are in need of housing or food you can go to the downtown location and they will take care of you. It might not be a permanent solution, but it is a helping hand. The place is clean and very well taken care of. Their volunteers are outstanding.

The Serenity Program is an amazing program I must say. Absolutely fantastic opportunity I must say. Only problems, which to me is unacceptable is staff need to make sure they know and follow the rules so they don't misguide you and get you in trouble, and they need to set example and watch their unnecessary attitude. And food, they really need an overhaul on food and meals so people like myself and son aren't nutritionally deprived and literally starving all day. And if they need help with providing food, they should accept the help, not turn someone down that wants to contribute. But that can all be fixed, if they're willing and care. And I know they do! Overall great place and mostly wonderful staff.

I would give these no stars if I could. I would actually take away stars like they take away from people who are actually in need. Karm is literally a scam and does the bare minimum they have too to be seen as a “Christian” organization. The CEO, Danita is living a pretty lavish lifestyle all while buying property & houses. They throw donations away if they don’t sell just to have space for a dollar tree item with a $8 karm sticker. It’s pretty disgusting and anyone who donates or buys from them are fools.

I believe that most of these places need to put there employees through sensitivity training. The people coming to them for help are already going through hard enough times. Is it to much to ask for a little kindness. These people didn't break any laws by being homeless. Why treat them like criminals? It's sad and it should change. Making people wait for 1-2 years to get the help that is already there is wrong.

I didn't like the mistreatment I received by being a person that likes to mind her own business and not cruelly mess with people randomly. I was initially moved by the place because of my eagerness to communicate with others that understand God. It helped me with my discouragement that comes from being homeless. However, I entered the place with an ex of mine who is a mocker of God and a drugged-up, sociopathic, opportunist. We met during early sobriety at an AA meeting in West Palm Beach, FL. He broke a promise he made to me. I used to volunteer my time there with purpose and left the restrooms clean every morning to keep my assigned bed. I took a break from KARM and returned to a diabolical smear campaign thanks to my ex. Only a stupid person chooses to love them and I was one. Don't trust the guards that work there like nearly every security guard, protect yourself from the people behind a desk if you're deciding to enter KARM using prayer. They don't have a soul; I can tell by the irresponsibility and lack of consideration. Use the gift of discernment. I pray that the people I mentioned in my original review can excuse me for pointing them out. I want to be confidential about their names because I want to sound professional and be altruistic because it breaks my heart to feel sorry for them. Aside from that, I remember getting along with some of the group facilitators of the initial Launchpoint program. I finished reading the certificate of achievement I received afterwards and I give them a standing ovation for the acknowledgement they have about detecting my spiritual gifts. That's why I give it a two star rating!

Overall karm is a good place to go for help and most of the staff and security are nice, helpful people and I've personally not had cross interactions with any of them. That being said I've witnessed what I can only classify as control mongering. IDK that it was necessary but I saw the heftiest guard there physically lying on a man as tho he were a couch and the guard is easily 300 lbs. The man he was laying on had no weapons and I didn't hear him threaten harm so I'm mystified as to that treatment of him. Over the last few days I've seen that I believe her name is Colleen is probably the biggest abuser of her authority. Instead of putting on a coat she will shut down the inner courtyard bcz she is cold from the men entering and exiting(her exact words). Also she will hold up the breakfast line 15 minutes past time to start allowing men to go to breakfast and when asked what the holdup was at 730 she didn't like the way the men were gathered in the chapel waiting. Last thing I disagree with I've seen in some of their power trips is a motto they've coined is "off the floor or out the door". If they see you on the floor in the chapel they will command you get up and into a seat or they will kick you out of the building on a white flag day. White flag days are days where it's below an acceptable temperature to be forced outside.

KARM is a Christian based organization that will accept nearly everyone unless you're on a sex offense registry, so there is often a lot of arguing and tension and frequent fights among the clients there. Supervision and control are a little lacking, especially in the cold season when they are overcrowded. The food there is usually good. Most times there is enough for seconds, tho sometimes they run short and not enough to keep you full. They do not allow you to stay inside throughout the day unless the temperature is near freezing.
I've traveled many states and been to many shelters in many cities and overall KARM is one of the best I've found for getting assistance in recovering your life. They have some of the best programs and resources anywhere to help those who truly wish to recover and improve themselves. The staff are generally nice and helpful as long as you are respectful toward them and follow the rules

I went into the Karm Store on Centerline Drive last night. They had an item that I was very interested in. But wasn’t charged. I asked the Manager if they would charge it and I would come back today to buy it. With her pecking her fingernails loudly on the counter and a terrible attitude, she said “ I’m not going to leave it plugged in all night”. I ask if she could plug it in first thing in the morning (still pecking her nails) says “ I’m the manager and I have far too much to do than to worry about plugging it in. And I would probably forget. I ask if she could leave a note. Still complaining that she has too much to do. I ask. Can’t you leave a note for an employee. She is still complaining that there’s a lot to do. I was finally beyond dealing with such a rude person. I told her she was setting a really bad example for her employees. And she was there to do a service for Karm. I put everything back. I asked the sweet girl at the counter, if all the managers acted like her.

These people have absolutely lost their minds. These are used, donated items that they are marking at MSRP or sometimes even higher. Absolutely no sense in thrifting here anymore

This place is disgusting the staff is rude to the homeless they higher ups of the board are allowing the donations to go to stores for sale rather then to the people who need it and can't afford it they have people literally come to load their cars full of karma supplies ranging from food to clothes and hygiene products they take them all and never return with them simply this organization has made legal ways to steal form the less fortunate disgusting and the big honchos over this place are all connected under the blood mission using Jesus Christ name to cover up their own foul deeds this not a house of God rather a house of Satan all types of stuff goes on here this place truly helps you find the grave faster

Drug city and there is nothing but garbage laying everywhere where people throw away stuff donated to them it is like a zombie apocalypse on that street ...seen 3 people out of 200 not high and the police try to keep it watched but those people don't care and police can only do so much. People running in the streets in traffic and we counted the em's visits 1 day and they were there 11 times to pick up druggies and go to hospital to keep from sleeping in the street.

These people are RACIST i was denied shelter to this day. I went to this shelter on a Saturday weekend they put a band on my Arm and sent me to Lunch before Intake as i waited penitently in the line as the volunteers or people who were working told me to i couldn't because i didn't have a shelter ID. As i try to explain what happened they kicked me out and got aggressive with me. These people put a "Criminal Trespassing on My Name" i did nothing. @naacp

You like to think the videos about this place isnt true. When I heard they wouldnt let staff donate old toys to the North Carolina Hurricane victims I couldnt believe a. " ministry " would be so cold and heartless. However, after today I completely believe everything all the viral videos say...My husband and I have been going through a very hard financial situation. Our church helped us with food vouchers and some
" giftcards" to use at this ministry. We saved the giftcards for Karm because we had no clothes for summer and we thought we were being smart by saving them. However, this " ministry" puts expiration dates on these giftcards... it is not in a place you would see without looking for it and what giftcard has expirations dates for them so why would you be looking for a date? The manager didnt bat an eye and had no problem not being able to help us out. She could have " careless" as the person I called at the knoxville office.... asking if they'd make an exception as giftcards dont usually have expiration dates and had no idea. These giftcards are given to people going through a very hard time. Transportation might be a hardship for many reasons for gas money- or car issues and to put a expiration on something that is supposed to help people who are poor just amazes me.Glad you feel good about yalls self because you play Christian music, you sell stained shirts for $15, and show people being
" feed" but as far as helping real people in the community it is all about money! If you want to donate to a good organization I would highly suggest some place besides Karm.... because again... its all about $$$$ and given the opportunity to help a family in need or help kids in a hurricane they will turns their heads.

This arugula pasta salad was a flavorful delight, bursting with fresh, zesty notes that complemented each ingredient perfectly. The pasta added a hearty texture, and the walnuts gave it a pleasant crunch. The lemon zest tied everything together with a bright, refreshing finish—ideal for lemon lovers like me. Overall, a well-balanced dish that’s as tasty as it is vibrant. Highly recommended for any companies’ craving something fresh and satisfying!

Really great organization trying to help the homeless and get them back on their feet. They also have a guy truck that serves up delicious fare with all proceeds going to help the homeless. We got the turkey sandwich and the veggie burrito. They were both delicious.
