Seeking help for your substance abuse can be an intimidating and daunting endeavor. It takes great courage and humility to reach out for help. Help is available though, even in Castle rock, Colorado.
Named for the prominent rock formation overlooking the town, Castle Rock was first settled in the 1870s. Nestled in the East Plum Creek Valley, Castle Rock has stunning views of the Rocky Mountain Front Range and is surrounded by rocky buttes.
Castle Rock boomed after the discovery of rhyolite in the nearby buttes. Rhyolite is the hardening component in cement, and obsidian (a form of rhyolite) is used in some surgical knives.
Colorado has suffered its share of substance abuse. According to the Center for Behavioral Health Statistics and Quality, in 2013, on average, 35 Coloradans died every month from unintentional prescription drug overdoses. Colorado is 12th in the nation for prescription medication abuse. 224,000 people misused prescription medications in Colorado. Deaths caused by prescription med overdoses quadrupled from 2000-2011.

There is no clear cut answer for this for everyone. There are many factors that go into how long it takes someone to get addicted. Some of these factors include gender, genetics, environment, age, the type of substance, frequency of use, dosage and a person’s biology. A person’s sensitivity to a substance is also a factor. One person can use a substance several times and not become addicted, whereas another person can use the same substance once or twice and develop an addiction.
