Diazepam (Valium) is a benzodiazepine that is prescribed mainly to help treat anxiety disorders, as well as alcohol withdrawal symptoms and muscle spasms. As a CNS depressant, Valium slows down neurotransmitter activity in the brain. Like all benzodiazepines, it is highly addictive in nature due to the body’s ability to quickly form a tolerance to the substance and is meant to be used on a temporary, “as-needed” basis. Visit the Diazepam Page for more information.
