Addiction is a disease that affects all aspects of a person’s life. This devastating mental illness is effects individuals mentally, physically and spiritually.

As with any illness, therapeutic techniques work for many but do not work for everyone. There is a plethora of different strategies to choose from and combine.

One of the methods used increasingly frequently is use of a medication that stops the normal working process of such substances as Alcohol and Opioids.

Naltrexone, brand name Vivitrol or Revia, is one of the more frequently prescribed to deter the use of mood and mind-altering substances. While an individual is on Naltrexone, even if he or she should relapse and use Opioids or Alcohol, these substances will not create their usual effects, namely make the person high.

The use of such a medication can be especially useful in decreasing an individual’s inclination to relapse. The person will know that even if he or she does, the substance will not have the desired effect and may actually create unwanted symptoms such as nausea and vomiting, among other negative effects.

For people who have tried sobriety and repeatedly relapsed, Naltrexone may be just what you need to accumulate a solid foundation in sobriety.
