Specialized Assistance Services NFP, (formerly Substance Abuse Services, Inc.), headquartered in Chicago, is a not-for-profit organization incorporated in 1976 to provide comprehensive treatment services to individuals and families who experience problems associated with the use of psychoactive substances.
Specialized Assistance Services, NFP, was originally a part of the Illinois Drug Abuse Program under the Dangerous Drug Commission. Specialize Assistance Services NFP is licensed, monitored, and funded by the Illinois Department of Human Services through the Division of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse, the city of Chicago Department of Health, local drug courts and private foundations.The Board of Directors, comprised of Community Leaders, governs the organization. The day-to-day operations of the agency are under the direction of the President and Chief Executive Officer. Medical services are under the supervision of the Medical Director, supported by physicians including a psychiatrist and a full time nursing staff. All clinical services fall under the supervision of the Vice-President of Clinical Operations and Services, supported by Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW), Licensed Social Workers and Certified Alcoholism and Drug Counselors (CADC).We believe that Specialized Assistance Services offers an individual an alternative way of living through treatment, which leads to the development of self-worth, which is an important step on the road to recovery.
