Cult-like in at least two important ways: continuous maximization of profits and a charismatic leader (Jim Andronowitz) of whom everyone, including all staff, were afraid. Their claim to be "dual diagnosis"-friendly is the main reason my family was able to compel me to go to Oasis. But the psychiatrist they used came just once a week, for one hour, to see 20+ patients. She treated me like an inmate, which I was. Oasis gave us $4.00 per day: $2 to take the bus TO get a job somewhere ("jobget") and $2 to get back to Oasis. They would dole out cartons of cigarettes requested by patients every week. We had to pray at every turn, including after helping to make dinner--and cleaning the kitchen after. Were I the litigious type...
