I was a client at FamilyLinks in 2011. I completed the program as a phase 2 intermediate. I did not have custody of my kids when I arrived at FamilyLinks. They actually picked me up from the Allegheny County Jail. I was scared to enter rehab and they made me feel welcome and at home. They are incredibly supportive and they helped me get custody of my kids back a little over 2 months after beginning treatment. 2 of my son's came to live at the facility with me and my other son who lived with his dad was allowed to come spend weekends with me. Ms. Joan was my counselor and went above and beyond to support me. My family went for custody against me while I was in treatment and Ms. Joan came to court with me and fought to help me keep my kids. They encouraged and helped me get into supportive housing through Sojourner Moms supportive housing program. FamilyLinks is alot of behavioral modification and they make you take accountability for your choices. They have different jobs within the community. Every 2 weeks your job within the community changes. The clients are responsible for cooking breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Every Sunday we would have a big brunch and have fun. Hollidays we would all get together and cook and it felt like a family. I was never made to feel bad for my addiction but instead forced me to look at my actions and get very honest about my use and how it impacted my relationship with my kids as well as my family. I would absolutely recommend FamilyLinks to anyone that is in a position where they need treatment and support. The staff is incredible and I will always be grateful to the amazing women who helped me rebuild my confidence and self esteem and gave me the encouragement to repair my relationship with my kids and family.
