About this Facility'+'+
Gary and Alice Shoemaker founded A.B. Counseling in 1990 with a desire to provide high quality outpatient services to offenders. Employing a multidimensional treatment approach, A.B. Counseling analyzes a person's biological, psychological, socioeconomic and familial status. By using this integrated approach, we are able to evaluate, identify and treat clinical concerns that manifest from multiple sources. This holistic assessment leads to the development of a personalized treatment plan that assists the individual in reaching an optimal quality of life. An important strength of our practice is the ability to assess and conduct on-going support (individual and group therapy) for a multitude of Approved Treatment Provider services. We offer 28 groups weekly including: Level II Substance Abuse Education, Level II Substance Abuse Therapy, Relapse Prevention, Offender-Specific Relapse Prevention, Marijuana Specific Treatment, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Parenting, Anger Management, Domestic Violence for Men and Domestic Violence for Women. There are hundreds of clients enrolled in our group treatments, most of whom are court-ordered offenders. We assess a variety of needs for the offender in a single intake and provide individual and group therapy in each identified area of need. This streamlines the process for both offender and case manager, contributing to a more efficient and effective treatment plan. A comprehensive safety plan reduces the rate of recidivism by addressing all factors encountered by the offender. A.B. Counseling's major clients include: The Arapahoe Community Treatment Center (ACTC), The Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC), Denver's Department of Human Services, Intervention Community Corrections Services (ICCS), and Jefferson County Diversion. We are Approved Treatment Providers for offenders under the supervision of the following Probation Departments: Adams County, Arapahoe County, Arvada Municipal, Aurora Municipal, Broomfield Municipal, Denver County, Edgewater Municipal, Jefferson County ISP, Jefferson County, Wheat Ridge Municipal, Lakewood Municipal, and Westminster Municipal.

These people don't care about any of their 'patients.' Classes consist of things like watching movies. There is NO reason to pay $25 a week for that. They just want their money. A $30 'exit fee' is absolutely crazy. They want $30 just to say bye. No. This place is just money hungry. Not to mention the fact that they don't care too too much about confidentiality. During intake they had a form up on the computer behind Gary that was something about someone getting in trouble. The persons name and everything was right there. Come on, confidentiality dude. It's no one else's business whats going on with someone else. They aren't even very professional here. If you have to take classes or UA's i highly recommend going somewhere else, this place doesn't deserve anyone's money.
