Xanax (Alprazolam) is one of the most commonly abused benzodiazepines that is prescribed mainly to help treat anxiety and panic disorders. As a CNS depressant, Xanax slows down neurotransmitter activity in the brain. Like all benzodiazepines, it is highly addictive in nature due to the body’s ability to quickly form a tolerance to the substance and is meant to be used on a temporary, “as-needed” basis.
