I had a brief stay at the South Suburban Council. On my last day ( not scheduled ) I had some problems with my mental health status. The Council took me to the hospital dropped me off and left me there thinking I could return after the hospital visit. After my hospital visit, I was given an order to return to the Council. When I returned, they refused to let me in stating that they discharged me. The next day, my caretaker took me back to the Council in hopes that I would be readmitted; they put her through hoops to provide documentation regarding my hospital visit. When she provided the documents, they found one sheet that stated generically that I should go to another hospital for an assessment and referral and return. My caretaker explained that I would not be able to receive an assessment/referral due to my insurance plan but they disregarded us any way. Since that time, the Council will not return calls and have just left us with no where to turn. I thought this facility was in my community to help me. They told me that they worked with people with drug addiction and mental health needs.Additionally, my friend recently went through the same situation. The council admitted her knowing that she needed a specific medication for her mental health. They were not able to administer the medication so they took her to the hospital . Her thought was that she would receive the medication from the hospital nurse. However, my friend was dropped off at the hospital ; with no documents and the hospital was not aware she was coming . She was too discharged from the Council without her knowledge. The hospital asked her to leave the premises as she was not able to sit in the lobby and wait for her ride due to the Coronavirus. This was awful because my friend also suffers from Paranoid Schizophrenia and was left to wander around in the streets. Is this the best practice of the South Suburban Council? I will need to contact DASA about the practice of this agency. It is very disheartening .
