About this Facility'+'+
Founded in 1975 by the late Monsignor Ignatius McDermott and Dr. James West, McDermott Center dba Haymarket Center is the largest not-for-profit community-based adult detoxification, residential, and outpatient substance abuse treatment facility in Chicago. Haymarket Center has continued to grow into a comprehensive alcohol and other drug treatment organization, licensed by the state of Illinois, which receives funding from the private sector, as well as city, county, state and federal agencies. The treatment programs are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Rehabilitative Facilities (CARF).Msgr. McDermotts and Dr. West’s understanding of addiction as a disease provided the motivation for their call for treatment in lieu of criminalization. This fundamental perspective continues to guide Haymarket Center in pioneering innovative, high quality, community-based, social setting behavioral health programs that are gender responsive, culturally appropriate and population specific. Although Haymarket serves primarily homeless, indigent and ex-offenders from the south and west side communities of Chicago, it extends its services to the entirety of Illinois. Since its inception Haymarket Center has remained wholeheartedly devoted to identifying and designing new and progressive methods for furthering our founding mission: “to aid people with chemical dependency in their recovery by providing a continuum of optimal professional care that is responsive to the identified needs of the community.”With more than 30 specialized programs supporting our mission, more than half are CARF accredited programs that utilize evidence based practices which harness significant research that prove their effectiveness and insure greater success for our clients. Along with this commitment, we have continually been faithful to our guiding principle of providing comprehensive substance abuse treatment and referrals to Chicago’s vastly ignored and underserved populations regardless of their ability to afford services. Our loyalty to these two fundamental principles has led Haymarket to develop programs in clinical treatment and supportive services to men, women and children, serving over 18,000 clients per year.

Haymarket is one of the best treatment centers in Chicago. I was in the 28 day program in TTR ( TRANSITION TOWARDS RECOVERY. The staff there is caring and work with each individual to help them gain their sobriety and anything else that one may need to become a productive member of society. I would recommend anyone that needs help with their addiction to go there and get help. They can't promise you that you will stay alcohol or drug free, but they give you the tools to help you maintain your sobriety. It' s up to the individual to take those tools and utilize them to the best of your ability to help yourself. I give Haymarket 5 stars in their approach to helping people in general, regardless of one's inability to pay or their race, gender, creed, sexual orientation or color.

I have a daughter who is attending the program now and a certain employee by the name of Rochelle Green is taunting and harassing her everyday. She is doing things like cutting her phone break short from 10 minutes to 7 sometimes 5. Harassing her to hurry up when she is taking a shower. Shtating rumors Amon the staff members about my daughter so that they won't like her and come aboard with giving her a hard time there. Rochelle ordered pizza for everyone and told them about it then excluded my daughter's welcome to any because she doesn't like her. When my daughter expressed to Rochelle how she feels taunted by her and harassed and asked her to stop. Rochelle was rude to her and told her that she doesn't want any smoke from her. I myself have witnessed her inappropriate tone and language towards my daughter when ever my daughter talks to me over the phone. Rochelle among other staff members are running this rehabilitation center as of it is a women's prison. I am tired of recieving complaints everyday about her and her partner in crime. This has triggered my daughter so that she left the facility after nearly 14 days of detox and I encouraged her to go back. I wish there is something that can be done about Rochelle Green's unprofessionalism as it's important for all detox patients to receive the proper atmosphere needed for recovery. So far she has only managed to indirectly and on purpose force my daughter to leave. My daughter told me that she is making her stay there a horrible experience and when she leaves she only feels the need to relapse to cop with the trauma that has occurred to her there. If there are any further questions, I truly do wish someone would call me at 312-549-1557. People like that need to be reprimanded or replaced with someone who loves to help those who are in distress and coping with drugs (self medicating) not adding to the problem. That's what I do believe you hired her for. Thank you

If people don’t know about the haymarket center or as I knew it as the haymarket house it really works. I Learned that it is all up to you because no bottle knocks you down and pours it self down your throat. Hey market really works I’ve been away from there since 1989 and haven’t touched a drop and thanks to God I’m still sober.
