About this Facility'+'+
Recovery is defined as a process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live a self-directed life, and strive to reach their full potential. It is our job to support our patients as they move through the recovery process. For discovery house's patients receiving medication assisted treatment it is our contention that patients should be maintained on medication for the shortest possible period of time, consistent with that individual’s goals, medical considerations, and their personal recovery. However, stabilized patients who abstain from use of alcohol and other intoxicating drugs, and show evidence of improvement in health and social functioning should be considered to be in recovery or recovering. We recognize that opioid addiction is a chronic, progressive illness that requires more than an acute care model of service delivery. We support a model of sustained recovery support analogous to medical management of other chronic diseases.

I came here broken, scared, and so alone in life. I was given hope, kindness, and safety, and I didn't have to give anything in return except my time and willingness to get off of drugs. I have had dozens of counselors and therapists through out life. I have had hundreds of incounters with Dr's. , nurses, and medical staff. And the vast majority were not kind and and understanding to what a heroin addict like myself goes through on a daily basis, unwillingly. I never felt judged or looked down upon there. My therapist Jim Pain has been there rhe last almost 8 years to help me process, grief, addiction, breakups, the death of my sister, and so much more. He has given me advice, and been a guiding light when I felt lost in life and didn't believe in myself. Addicts are often told that they have to do all the work themselves, but that's so untrue. It takes a village to raise a child, and it also takes a strong support system to help an addict get back to where they long so badly to be. To Jim, Becky, and all the nurses, and Barb with COE you all are amazing, and I love all of you dearly for saving this addicts life. Thank you❤️‍🩹

Obviously what works for one may not work for all. This is a program that you get out of what you put in.If you put in the work Discovery House will as well. The have been nothing but positive and helpful for me.They have been friendly with me even when I wasn't with them and that's what makes them vary professional. I would recommend them to anyone. You put in the work on your end and they will as well

I am currently a patient at Discovery House, Duncansville. I wanted to write a review because I don't think these type of places get enough positive reviews. I don't think that people understand certain things about drug and alcohol maintenance, let alone pain management. I feel if you work the program that it can work for you. Once you get on a stable dose it does absolute wonders for yourself, your family and for your life, your way of life. I absolutely recommend anyone with a drug or alcohol problem call a clinic in your area or do some research to have a better understanding of how these facilities work. People can be ignorant to the facts on how maintenance programs help people, how it gives you a better way of life. If you work your program the right, stick to your program, it does wonders and it's amazing. When you are good and ready to graduate from your program and you go about that the right way you can establish a clean, meaningful, wholesome way of life. Please if you need help don't hesitate to call a clinic near you. I recommend Disovery House of Duncansville

Really wish i could give 0 stars. I have been to 4 treatment center location 3 of them being different business owners. I transfered here and had to leave my favorite one thus far (riverside treatment in rosedale & edgewood) due to moving from here from Maryland. I chose to come to discovery house due to the positive reviews it had. Im unsure if it was due to the spoiled nature in which riverside treatment takes care of you that caused my viewpoint expectations of opiod treatment centers should be or if it's just the fact that that actually want success from patients and not just there money like how ive found discovery house to be there main concern. The different requirements from each state vary although PA has more requirements like a 1.5hr group as well as 1hr counciling per month verse 1 hr counciling only in MD isn't what makes this clinics downfall, although it doesnt help matters. In my opnion a clinic should be helpful and care since most addicts rely on drugs to help cope with heartbreaks/troubles they've experienced to "numb" the hurt at least temporarily so its imperative clinics to me should have the inviting, helpful, kind, caring staff whats willing to go above and beyond every now and then considering every addict who seeks help have different needs. The first strike towards discovery house occured before i was even a patient. (I should of taken as a sign but still proceeded) which was that in order to be enrolled onto the clinic you need to schedule an appointment on only 2 of the possible 6 days open (i think Tue&Thurs. if memory is correct). Due to this inconvenience i needed to delay my move date to correspond accordingly to prevent withdraw. If still on drugs the encouragement to seek help and actually motivated to take that first step usally is a step occurred randomly on impulse. Doing this also sets up the opertunity for addicts to change mind go thru withdraw and/or opens the chances for an overdose to occur and possible death on the count that a staff member doesnt want to do what would take only an hour to hour and a half long paperwork and setup except on a day they expect. Same day intake not only should be mandatory but is 100% possible (riverside had on average 2 per day no appointment needed no rude comments asked) as a previous business owner one would think they would like to be able to increase cash flow daily and not limited to 8-10 days a month. As well as increases opertunity for new patients to look elsewhere to get quickest help avaliable. Another strike happened due one of the occations asking the doctor for a dose increase since withdraw was happening daily between 5-8pm. I was told "you need to deal with it no i can't and won't increase your dose". On that day if i was a local addict i most definitely 100% without a doubt would of gotten something off the street to prevent sickness. your 2 for2 for increasing relapse opertunitys in my opnion. Strike 3 is that the staff (excluding Becky) are only there to collect there paycheck amd really dont care how you feel such as being told "if you piss clean and do the required sessions each month we wont even know who you are"-stan. Well (like riverside & noethern parkway) took time out of there day CONSISTENTLY to get to not only know me but know my story because they knew that information has potential to help. All 3 MD locations knew my name and when i walked in the door typed my I.D. number into the system with a greeting so all i needed to do was get dosed at the window. Which is another difference between MD and PA is discovery makes it so unwelcoming since you type your number onto a screen, which lets you know what you need to do(see becky, drug screen and get dosed). You need to reenter your number again on some occasions which normally wouldnt be much of a problem but considering you practically need to exit the building n reenter the door its inconvenient. Strike #5 is a HUGE PROBLEM for my girlfriend and I, which is CAMERA'S IN THE BATHROOM. that means everytime i piss theres someone somewhere watching (see other rewiew 4more)

Never guest dose here. They don't care what your home paperwork says. They will let you withdraw for your trip home and not even pretend to care.

They don't help you recover, they just keep you addicted and in the cycle. I recommend anyone who wants true help, to seek a therapist and find support from non drug using people in our community, that want to help you. DH and other drug clinics use this crutch to keep you stuck. I have not seen one successful case, not one person, come out of treatment and have the skills needed to live a happy and productive life. The groups focus around the negative rather than them taking control and turning into a positive to try and help people think differently, and this is exactly why it isn't working. CBT therapy is highly recommended to help people learn to think differently but they don't use this technique...🙄 The only people I've seen succeed are the ones who chose to leave this clinic and any other clinic and seek help from non-opioid choices, CBT, and licensed therapists- rather than the drug pushers they call therapists here.
