Dream Again from Delta Township

Human nature necessitates that people self-govern their actions so as to live in a well-adjusted society. When people don't self-govern themselves, they will fall prey to the governance of the law. Unfortunately, when people succumb to drug addiction, they often lose their ability to self-govern and self-control. And, more often than not, they end up in the hands of the law.
What they need is treatment, not imprisonment. Over the years, people have become to realize that addiction is a disease of the mind"”not a defect of will.Accordingly, treatment has evolved to help people. Because of the infancy of such measures, not a lot of people know about what treatment consists of.
What Should I Expect in Treatment?
Treatment comes in many different forms and you should choose one that best meets your specific needs. Inpatient treatment is the most comprehensive. It entails clients staying in residential settings with 24-hour care. Outpatient allows the client to stay at their house to complete treatment"”they just have to drive to the treatment center to go through the various therapeutic aspects. There's hospitalization, which people need in extreme cases.
Inpatient treatment begins with detoxification, which clears the person's body of all the toxins they deposited into their body during use. This period could last up to 14 days. After this period ends, the client will go through the therapeutic dimension of treatment, which consists of group and individual therapy. In group therapy, the client will learn how to process and heal within a group setting. In individual therapy, clients get to learn the ins and outs of their illness. Both therapeutic settings have therapists on demand.
Essentially, clients will go through intensive therapy throughout their process. Much of the therapy involves re-connecting with humans. Addiction is an isolating disease and overcoming it means learning how to socialize positively again. Treatment is important as it re-connects people and helps them find the tools to live in recovery for life.
Everybody needs somebody to listen, guide and support them in the recovery process. Sponsors fulfill all of those needs. Sponsors are a key part of the treatment process and can be found at 12-step meetings. Obtaining a sponsor goes a long way in helping people have long-lasting recovery.
